About this deal

It is safe to say you should not watch these extras before watching the film, as there are a lot of spoilers. After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. Wrapping things up, in addition to some trailers, there's also a code for a Digital Copy, as well as the Pixar maximizer, for calibrating your set-up.

This is London - INSIDE OUT is delightfully inventive, funny and touching and, surreptitiously, a great way of helping kids get a handle on all those inexplicable feelings. Four deleted scenes are available (16:53), with introductions from Docter, who explains how much work went into these clips, and the thought process behind their creation and removal. I especially loved the use of colors in the picture and how various colors had a certain emotion attached to it. Commentary: Pete Docter (Director), Ronnie Del Carmen (Co-Director), Jonas Rivera (Producer), 'Lava', 'Riley's First Date? They hit upon many unique and touching aspects of one’s thought process and conflicting emotions that one might wonder if this subject matter is perhaps too deep for kids. Into the Unknown: The Sound of Inside Out" (7:09) is another literally-named featurette, this time focusing on the film's sound design, which offered the challenge of creating a world that's never existed, as well as multiple levels of reality. I actually stopped watching as all the other "islands" fell away, leaving only FAMILY still floating, because the sentimentalism got too much.

This film is loaded with challenging material, whether it's the glass memory balls or the detail of the memory archives. It’s a story that harkens back to Pixar’s method of storytelling for Toy Story, taking such a relatable aspect of childhood and blowing it up not just for humor, but for all the humanity it can exploit. Now, as Riley prepares to navigate a new city and attend a new school, her emotional headquarters becomes a hot bed of activity. Her dreams are located in a movie studio lot where various actors assemble to stage her dreams as movie productions. There are a few preliminary versions of the mind designs highlighted here, which all would have resulted in very different movies.

Perhaps being the father of a young daughter led to some bias when it comes to Inside Out, but watching Riley and Joy fight their way through their separate and shared situations, all of which is delivered with Pixar's trademark creativity, humor and heartfelt emotion, one can't help but be enamored with the film, its characters, its story and its artistry.

The idea that everyone has the same, if personalized emotional set-up in their heads is utilized effectively for laughs, as are several concepts drawn from psychological theory, including the effects of abstract thought, as are the way the emotions interact with each other and Riley's life (like the headlines on Anger's newspapers and Disgust's general. For anyone thirsty for knowledge and with the welfare and comfort of their horse in mind, this is a must watch DVD! In every passing hour without Riley’s core memories and all emotions presents, the islands of her personality begin to crumble. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. Then there's the trailer for Japan (2:30), which is exceedingly heavy-handed in explaining the film and pushing the drama. The only element that feels a little too simple is Riley’s train of thought which is literally a train.

The final piece is "Mind Candy" (14:26), a seemingly random collection of clips, some of which seem like animation tests, while others are full-fledged bits focused on the different emotions (and are quite enjoyable. Dvd is fun for all the family, our 2 year old loves it and so does her 85 year old Great Grandparents. The film has an optional audio commentary from director Pete Docter and co-director Ronnie Del Carmen (with director of photography Patrick Lin and Hader joining in for a bit, and an attempt for another guest.
