About this deal

The premise for BROKEN SOULS was intriguing with two women found dead in suspected suicides, both wearing wedding dresses. A strong enough murder mystery element that kept me guessing until the end, the family side of these books is just as important as it’s an essential part of showing who Lottie is and why at times she is very short with her work colleagues and a bit bitchy at times(which seems to irritate certain readers and distance her from them). Luckily, Lottie's family is not involved with the investigation this time but her staff keeps her on her toes. That afternoon Fiona Hefernan is thrown off a building and her 8 year old daughter, Lily, is missing. The nail-biting new book in the beloved Detective Lottie Parker series by million-copy bestseller Patricia Gibney.

In her heart she knows that she gets things wrong and often gets overly immersed in cases, but she doesn't deserve the way the family have behaved in parts of this novel, although I worried for Sean. There may be evidence of the previous owners (inscriptions in the cover, the odd marking etc), it’s their history that makes them more precious, its all part of their narrative.Broken Souls" for me is one of the best 'Foyle's War' episodes, the best since the first half of Season 4 with "Bad Blood" (while still good there was a slight quality slump for that season's second half from personal view) and one of the most emotional. This book (and hereby also this review) deal with a past rape that is constantly mentioned in the book and that the heroine has to deal with. After the bombshell delivered at the end of this book, I can hardly wait to see what happens for Lottie next!

Patricia Gibney is a talented author, and I am determined to make time for at least one of her books every month until I have managed to work through the entire series. I relate to Alicia so much and sometimes I wish I had that one person who would love me unconditionally to the point where they’d let them go. Like with many 'Foyle's War' episodes, on re-watch there was much more appreciation had for how well established the character development, tone and themes are and things that didn't quite connect entirely at first made more sense on re-watches. I think what did me in was the- not so much bad, but maybe wishy-washy chemistry between the two characters. When the girls want to go to NYC for Christmas, she tries to guilt them by bursting into tears with the old, "I've failed as a mother" thing. There were definitely some strong points to book 7 in the Lottie series, but, I did have a few things that bugged me so, the lower rating is applied. As she and her team dig deeper into the the suicide victims' pasts, they uncover a dark web of lies and twisted minds. A series of suicides suddenly seemed off when the pathologist realized that it was all building up to be murder.

I haven’t faced what the female protagonist has faced (and may no one have to go through it), just that at some point, we're all trying to heal in some way or the other.Book 6 was the first in the series that I felt wobbled a bit in balance and quality(although I still enjoyed it) but I’m glad to report she is back on form here. just a few hundred metres from the residence of their prime suspect, shift solicitor Colin Kavanaugh, Fiona's ex-partner and father to her daughter Lily.
