Once the dice are rolled a player may obtain a new guest for their hotel, assuming they have an empty table in their café. They also help you prepare rooms, earn money or prestige with the Emperor, or discounts on hiring staff cards. Step into the opulent world of the Grand Hotel, where glamour meets mystery, and nothing is as it seems. If the next player throws the die before you have requested the money, you must forfeit that income.

In the last few years we’ve found ourselves joining guests in the lounge or bar for many a gaming evening, and have been growing our collection of modern board games – yes people are still inventing them and producing contemporary classics! When you have completely finished building a hotel, you may add its facilities on any subsequent turn.

When an opponent lands on a space carrying an entrance to your hotel, he must throw the standard die to decide how many nights he will stay. I had to read the instructions a couple of times to get an idea of how to play and I had to keep referring back to them throughout the game but I think next time we play we will have the hang of it. However, if the second player takes a three die, in the same round, then they can only prepare one hotel room as one of the die has already been removed by the first player.
