About this deal

I am not very susceptible to the phenomenon, although I have seen them in the past, and didn't experience any issues with them on the TH685i. Please note that in respect of replacement lamps for Epson projectors, the Original Inside lamp consists of a bulb made by Philips and a generic housing. In its most accurate setting, with color close to what you want in a home theater environment, I measured just over 1,600.

Also like a puppy its breath is hot and its bark is loud -- when you sit too close to any projector you can feel the heat as well as hear more fan noise. The HDMI ports don’t carry 4K signal, obviously, but do carry and recognize HDR, which is nice if you plan on connecting an Apple TV 4K or a similarly specced streaming device. It is a cheaper solution recommended for in-home use, where projection quality and reliability are not as crucial. Instead it would need to be cast from a computer or mobile device (BenQ is in discussions with Netflix for compatibility, so we might see it added down the line).CCC in this sub stands for Cheap but Can afford Crap, any illusion to saying CCC to disparage another community or race will result in a ban from here on out. The TH685 does what it sets out to do pretty well, serving up an enjoyable gaming performance that’s particularly at home in rooms with a little ambient light in them. They can both be a bit fiddly to get right—the focus more so than the zoom, which has a tab on it that can be guided more easily with a finger. The four modes with better color accuracy were all closely matched on contrast, black levels, and sense of three-dimensionality in dark scenes. But for a gaming projector that can serve well for movie nights and holds up to ambient light during the day, the BenQ TH685i is solid.

Contrast ratio is the visual distance between the lightest and the darkest colors that may be reproduced on the display. It is perfect for fast-paced sports, reaction-critical shooters, and timing-dependent battle arenas. In my tests, even the lower-brightness Cinema mode delivered a bright, 90-inch image with nicely saturated color in a dark room. A bit more maximum volume and deeper bass would have been appreciated, and a stereo rather than mono speaker output would likely have given the sound even more largesse. Based on the Society for Movie and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recommendations, 3,500 lumens is bright enough to fill a 270-inch, 1.Which is really handy given the relatively casual usage situations the TH685 is likely to find itself in. The TH685 pairs a single 1920-by-1200 DLP chip with a six-segment, RGBWYC (red-green-blue-white-yellow-cyan) color wheel, but uses only 1920-by-1080 pixels on the chip as its native resolution. inputs, which will let you connect most current image sources, including most PCs, but not older sources that need other types of connectors.

The BENQ TH685 generic lamp with housing includes generic plastic housing and a generic bulb from an authorised manufacturer of generic lamps. Resolution - Again, I'm not 100% convinced it's actually native 1080p, but text is very blocky and the aliasing is pretty obvious during play.Cinema mode's more accurate color, combined with good contrast, made it the clear winner for watching most film and video. Gain and bias calibration allowed me to improve the overall grayscale, but there were still some inaccuracies in the midtones due to elevated luminance.

BenQ exclusive projector-optimized HDR with HDR10 and HLG support offers greater brightness, contrast range, and image optimization, downscaling 4K HDR Blu-rays and streaming content for brilliant cinema enjoyment in bright settings. Once you get the focus right, image detail is appropriate for the 1080p resolution, and colors for movies and video are well within the range for realistic color in all but one of the predefined color modes. For gamers, that number has always been way too high and made playing twitch-based first-person shooters a nightmare.Note, though, that these digital features are no replacement for physical, optical adjustments, since they essentially distort the picture away from the pixel for pixel accuracy you ideally want. And while being mated with a gaming console is the TH685i's bread and butter, BenQ includes an Android TV streaming stick for TV and movie streaming when the gaming sessions are over.
