Batman: Arkham Origins received "mixed or average" reviews from critics on all platforms except on PlayStation 3, which received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic.

The actors standing in for long-time Batman and Joker voices Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill do a good job in emulating their predecessors - Troy Baker’s Joker, in particular, is close enough that I might not have noticed immediately if I weren’t listening for it.On New Year's Eve at Wayne Manor, Ferris Boyle, owner of Gothcorp, accepts an award presented by the Wayne Foundation for his humanitarian work. This younger Batman already has all his signature moves and gear, flies a fancy plane, and is on a first-name basis with pretty much every villain but The Joker. After completing the story mode a New Game Plus mode is unlocked, enabling a player to replay the game with all their acquired gadgets, experience, and abilities; enemies are tougher, and the icon warning players of attack is disabled.

Reviewers described the "Cold, Cold Heart" DLC as better paced and focused than the main game, owing to its shorter playtime that allowed for a more interesting experience. The developers drew upon "original Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle appearances" of Anarky for his character.They mention that it was delivered quickly, in perfect condition, and well within the timescale indicated. The dynamic and rich environments are filled with a variety of enemies, crimes-in-progress and other content that will encourage exploration and player engagement. The Wii U Gamepad is mostly useful as an always-on map, but outside of that Arkham Origins is strangely inconsistent about when it's used. An animated sequel, Batman: Assault on Arkham, was released in 2014, while a successor, Batman: Arkham Knight, was released in June 2015. The shock gloves were criticized as overpowered and making fights too easy, allowing Batman unblockable attacks (instantly disabling most opponents) and removing the need for tactics.
