About this deal

I recommend this book to every one who want to learn more about what happen to those few who did survive, if you have a twitter account, be sure to leave a comment to her Great GrandSon Dov Forman, it's the best way for Lily to hear from those who did read her books. A heart-wrenching and ultimately life-affirming Holocaust survivor story that demonstrates the power of love to see us through the darkest of times.

It's a well rounded story, telling of the difficulties after the war, where they went and what they did to move on in life. Life continued largely as normal for the family, until the death of the father from natural causes in 1942. Stories of victims trading food for the Torah, or still finding time for regular prayer show us that many people demonstrated immense resilience and determination to keep going, in spite of all the darkness they faced. Every Holocaust survivor’s story I read adds a new perspective on the unimaginable suffering they went through. Lily’s Promise – named just that because Lily herself made a promise to herself in the depths of Auschwitz – should she survive she would live her life and dedicate her life ensuring the world knew exactly what happened during the holocaust.

With your soul fed by a small act of resistance, even if it made no difference to anyone else, you imagined you could live for just a tiny bit longer…. Selbst als sie sich mit mehreren Familien eine Wohnung teilen musste und keine Privatsphäre hatte, konnte sie sich nicht vorstellen, dass es noch schlimmer wird.

She shares details that are so intimate, personal: the moment her mother removes her shoes and passes them over to Lily.Meanwhile at Yom Kippur 1944, Lily had promised that, if she survived, she would never let the world forget what she and her fellows suffered. I appreciate that, because other survivor testimonies I’ve read stop shortly after liberation, but of course the trauma continues. That word doesn’t seem at all big enough to contain the intolerance, hate, violence, and despair these people of all ages suffered for so many years.
