About this deal

I did appreciate Sheridan defusing a touchy subject with humor, connecting back to the era of time he’s focusing on.

His work has appeared in The Independent, NME, Vice, The Guardian, British GQ, Empire, Lonely Planet Traveller and numerous other publications. Quite frankly most of these films are not very amusing, as comedies, but can be interesting visually at least. Now, Simon Sheridan traces the history of the British sex film, from its beginnings in such coy nudist-camp flicks as Naked as Nature Intended, through to its boom years with the Confessions series, to its demise following censorship crackdowns and the introduction of home videos in the 80s.Broccoli and Harry Saltzman standing him in good stead, as he quipped “What better way for a potential Bond than to meet the producers. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. Moore’s Bond did share many characteristics with Connery especially under the tutelage of a shared director, Guy Hamilton. So to enhance the "soft core" simulated sex, the comedic element was added in typical naughty British "seaside humour" style.

It's an invaluable resource into 70's british sex cinema which you'll read from cover to cover and still come back to for reference again and again when you spot an all to infrequent new dvd release. I don’t like the newspaper campaigns that take the government to task for the amount of money it gives to other countries.

For me, Roger Moore embodied an idea of Britishness totally at odds with the insular worldview and false nostalgia of Brexit. Despite my punk years (aged eight to ten – I was angry early) it was one of the most extraordinary moments in my life. A far cry from the day's of the great Ealing comedies and epics like "Lawrence Of Arabia", it was a sign of the times.

He said his own favourite was from The Man With The Golden Gun: “When I’m, when Bond, is asking the gunsmith about Scaramanga. The odd thing was one could usually see more violence in US films and TV, but for quite some time one could not see hints of sex or even undress! The Queen represents an incredible broad sweep of history, and meeting her felt like shaking hands with history itself. Coaxing the facts from previously reluctant interviewees, Simon Sheridan has compiled the first definitive filmography of this long-overlooked genre. Moore’s Bond immediately was its own entity: 007 is a fashionable and fastidious dresser, smokes Havana cigars, has a public schoolboy charm and very English veneer, speaks fluent Italian and tended to outsmart his foes.

Coaxing the facts from previously reluctant interviewees, Simon Sheridan has compiled the first definitive filmography of this long-overlooked genre, complete with an expanded filmography and rare and previously unpublished stills.

Like many, I want to thank the NHS, teachers, journalists and all key workers who keep the British end up, especially during the pandemic. From his announcement as Sean Connery’s replacement in August 1972 to his retirement in December 1985, he thrilled and charmed a whole new generation of Bond fans and redefined the series. In the first newsletter, I mentioned I’ve had one state secret in my life, which I immediately blurted to my mother. Moore’s on screen talent was immense but made to look effortless, leading to the popular myth that he could not act.
