About this deal

Pete Grieg has done a masterful job of breaking down the areas of hearing the voice of the Lord and putting our faith into practice. We may have to wrestle with some theological and psychological difficulties to do with hearing God (Greig shares his own) but it is worth persevering. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. I loved the fact it was interlaced with inspirational stories that really help to build your faith in a God who speaks today and cares about our lives even before we are born. Nothing could possibly matter more than learning to discern the voice of God, but few things in life are more susceptible to delusion, deception and downright abuse.

The current book study is on Pete Greig’s new book, How to Hear God, and I recommend that you get hold of your own copy – you can purchase it here. Exploring the story of Christ's playful, poignant conversation on the road to Emmaus, Pete draws deeply from the insights of a wide range of Christian traditions. Having addressed God’s silence in God on Mute, and then How to Pray in his previous bestseller, Pete Greig is back to bring wisdom and guidance to one of the most pressing and perplexing aspects of universal Christian experience– How to Hear God. Different people’s psychological make-up affects how they hear God and that is okay – find out what best fits you.

This book will do a solid job helping them listen for the voice of God in everyday life, by way of a broad range of spiritual traditions, while remaining alert to the loopier and more manipulative claims of some would-be channellers of the Almighty. He heads up Emmaus Rd in Guildford with his wife Sammy, serves as Vice-President for the NGO Tearfund and was part of the senior leadership team at HTB in London for seven years.

The following is my slanted summary (it inevitably reflects my take on it) of the first chapter, Hearing God’s Word in Jesus. The follow up to Pete Greig’s How To Pray is a practical and encouraging guide to the other side of the prayer conversation: how to hear what God might be saying in response to the prayers we pray. This is a book to make your faith come alive by turning your ordinary, everyday prayers into a real, conversational relationship with the God who is speaking, more than you know.Nothing can replace reading it for yourself, but hopefully this can give you a taster and encourage you to read it. He weaves together the evangelical emphasis upon hearing God in the Bible, and the charismatic commitment to hearing God in the prophetic, with the contemplative understanding of God's 'still, small voice' within. The first section of the book explores God’s Word, exploring the ways that the Bible can speak to us, and the second half focuses on God’s Whisper, what God really sounds like today. He weaves together the evangelical emphasis upon hearing God in the Bible, and the charismatic commitment to hearing God in the prophetic, with the contemplative understanding of God’s still, small voice within. This book is sweet and salty--a perfect spiritual snack of deep spiritual truths with real-life wisdom and brevity.
