About this deal

I certainly couldn’t predict how the story would eventually play out, anyway, and it constantly took me by surprise, so this was such a great reading experience for me overall. Bringing it back to present day and Cleo has moved on, she’s now married to Wallace but he’s connected to her past in such a way that it’s impossible that the past will not come back to haunt Cleo.

Dorothy Koomson always knows how to pull her readers into a storyline and keep you completely wrapped up in the protagonist’s lives.Dorothy Koomson is my all time favourite author and I’m yet to read anything I didn’t like from her, this is no exception. A clever and multi-layered dark thriller, My Other Husband is a gripping read that left me gasping in shock more than once.

I did like some of the characters, especially Sidney, but felt that a good story became a little fantastical when all was said and done. She falls for him and at first they are very happy together, but Heath isn't who he appears to be and his behaviour becomes out of control and his jealousy increases. This was so close to being a five-star read for me but the only thing that made me drop half a star was because of how the story ended. The twists and turns as everything unfolds was second to none and every time you think you’d worked something out, you hadn’t! I appreciated how the theme of obsession was used throughout, but I just wanted to see more from a certain character.Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? She just didn’t feel very realistic to me, which isn’t a problem I’ve ever had before with Koomson’s characters.

As well as the main plot, Dorothy Koomson also makes important social commentary on how Black characters are removed or stereotyped from novels and TV shows and how it has to stop.Dorothy’s novels have been translated into over 30 languages, and a TV adaptation loosely based on The Ice Cream Girls was shown on ITV1 in 2013. Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters. It’s been a while since I’ve read a full book in one day but this was literally in my hand for the whole day. There are lots of twists and turns in this book which keep you gripped right until the very last page. I use my writing to try to explore what I’m feeling, I try to get into the heads of other people so I can see things from their point of view.

Dangerous, compelling, obsessive love mixes with murder, violence and desperation until the story comes to a head with an unexpected reveal. Why has she told the TV company that no more shows will be made, and why on earth is she divorcing Wallace? With very strong and expertly drawn characters I found myself invested in them all the way through, though there were some necessary distasteful ones. Dorothy Koomson is the award-winning author of 15 novels and has been making up stories since she was 13 when she used to share her stories with her convent school friends. I had high hopes for this book after seeing all the rave reviews but ultimately it fell flat for me very early one.Never one to rest on her laurels, Dorothy Koomson really takes things to another level with My Other Husband. We’re taken back to Cleo’s life when she first met Heath, how Trina said he was so ‘intense’ and it evolved over time that his relationship with Cleo in his mind was so magical that he had to do whatever he could to keep her in his life. I wasn't expecting to get so emotionally involved with the characters, and i have to admit that the last chapter (before the epilogue) literally had me in tears.
