About this deal

They also cover some unusual capacitive-feedback op-amp circuits, logarithmic amplifiers, and driving capacitive loads, among other short topics. This unusual numbering scheme keeps the contents in correspondence with the chapters of the third edition of AoE, stressing the fact that a lot of this material would be right at home there. It sort of runs out of steam once it gets to Op-Amps, but the coverage of the basic components is still decent and accessible. In the third x-Chapter, you’ll find some good info on selecting FETs for your application, discussions of FET transconductance, the bandwidth of FET circuits (and comparisons to BJTs), a very good discussion of the evolution and current state of power MOSFETs, and a section on integrated MOSFET gate drivers.

Think of The x-Chapters as the missing pieces of The Art of Electronics, to be used either as its complement, or as a direct route to exploring some of the most exciting and oft-overlooked topics in advanced electronic engineering. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Use it along with a good book which covers the analysis of circuits and it should cover most of the needs of any practicing engineer.Again, there’s a smattering of application examples featuring FETs, including driving a piezo transducer, generating fast pulses for LEDs, quickly quenching high-energy magnetic field coils, and generating fast 1. Side note: if you're writing a textbook and removing a chapter for a new edition and find that there are a lot of references to it in other chapters, that's a hint that you shouldn't have cut that chapter, not a reason to tell readers they should own multiple editions of the same book. The preface is explicit about this; the linear structure of previous AoE books has been replaced with very modular sections on specific topics.

I was about the only student who checked it out in 2 years – I think one other student managed to check it out when I was forbidden to renew it for a week. In fact, each chapter of the new book begins with a repetition of the end-of-chapter review from the corresponding part of AoE3. Usually publishers’ contracts with book distributors only allow one edition to be sold in a given territory. AoE2 has circuit diagrams of photon counting circuits, how to wire a photomultiplier and how best to do spectroscopy on gamma rays.

The effected area was only about 10mm x 10mm at 2 corners, and using a scalpel, i was able to carefully cut away the tiny amount of surplus paper - the 'surgery' is barely noticeable. They have also included a section on bus converters: bi-directional DC converters, which can convert from one voltage to another, say 12V down to 5V, but also work in reverse, transparently. Sure it’s a great book for what it covers, but the x-Chapters itself is absolutely incomplete without AoE3 by its side.
