About this deal

guys like sony, oly, fuji and panasonic have all been doing a great job with innovation but nikon, canon and pentax seem to be resisting the innovation bug. Again, it’s small and super light, so you hardly notice it, which is one of the pluses of the Nikon 1 system. The ribbed ring provides good grip while attaching or removing the lens and when you are holding the camera.

Typical for most fast primes, the Nikkor shows some amount of fringing at large aperture settings, which can of course be reduced by stopping down. It feels almost hallow like the lens consists only of the outer lens barrel, the mount and the front and rear elements but is empty inside.

i say “nearly” because some reviews on youtube showed up a better performance by rx-100 but anyways that’s not very imp and not the point. Almost all lenses show some form of color-fringing when shooting back-lit subjects, especially when used wide-open.

The not-most people who have convinced themselves they need a real camera have shown a strange willingness to pay enormous premiums for enormous hardware. Chromatic Aberration: Yes, there’s at least a pixel’s worth of CA at all apertures, slightly worse in the middle apertures. Huff, I hope you keep the site maintained, I have contributed in the only way my limited budget will allow me. The automatic white balance is too cool in the shade for my taste, but this is the case with every digital camera I’ve ever used.racked a bit more than the 10mm pancake though, and it could be because the elements have to travel further, I’m not sure.

I think it’s a neat thing to have and there are probably some use cases where it’s invaluable, but for me personally, the work involved in whittling down the extravaganza of files it kicks out is rarely worth the upside.Getting this result isn’t the fault of this lens entirely, it’s just a mix of several factors all coming-together. The photosite size is just too small, and the random nature of photons is going to definitely produce noise (quantum shot noise). One of the ironic reasons for owning a Nikon 1 is its grainy results which is great for simulating that unique look of film grain. The J5 should survive an impact from an errant ping-pong ball and can shoot at 60 frames per second. I’ve heard all the arguments for doing this (to be discrete, because Nikon/Canon doesn’t pay me to promote their gear etc etc), but it just seems kind of silly.
