Jada sent Robo a set of these figures and there was enough in the video to pique my interest and I decided to try one out with The Bride of Frankenstein. The first film is great, but it is surpassed by its sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, in the eyes of many.

It’s a ton of fun to play with and pose and super versatile, which is kind of funny considering how little The Bride does in the film and the relative briefness of her appearance in that picture. It’s slightly dated and stiff now, but it was the standard in the day, and what’s more, the stiffness is actually perfect for a character like the Monster. By no means is this even a fraction of the Frankenstein toys out there, but these are some of my favorites. He was the second version of the Karloff Monster, but he was actually the fifth version of the Monster in the line, after the versions from the original film, Ghost of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, and House of Frankenstein. Jada did sculpt an entire super-articulated bandaged-wrapped body under the skirt which has some really beautiful bandaged texture and nice proportions. I figured I might as well grab the other two to go with them, so now somehow I’m collecting two Universal Monsters figure lines, but so far I’m having fun doing it.

The more neutral face is my favorite and while it doesn’t feel like a precise likeness, I can see Bride actress Elsa Lancaster in there with the chin dimple and lip shape. On top of that, a lot of the Universal stuff is older releases, which don’t tend to need very timely reviews. I love monster toys (as demonstrated in these Blog-O-Ween posts), but my favorites are those capturing Frankenstein’s monster.Finding these in good condition is not impossible, but they have been remade in the last few years in different colors, so be careful when looking for these that they have the Mego markings on their backs. For extra care please supervise your cats while playing and do not give to children under 3 years old. I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical about these when they were announced, mostly due to Jada’s usual products not seeming to line up with this quality of line.
