About this deal

I know some people are confident doing this kind of thing using a chainsaw, and I do have chainsaws, but I am not confident doing plunge cuts with them. The contraption’s frame is made from an old scaffolding stand and the slides are just pipes inside of pipes. Im Just trying to find out what sort of saw and bar and chain combo People use for chainsaw Mortising ect In the log home building industry or any one else that uses this method? It shouldn't be too difficult to make or have made a simple clamp on drill press for accuracy, you could move it along the the mortice with each drill hole.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.I know it's not very helpful but don't you have to be a bit careful with the chains on second hands? and if you have experience with the others what are the pros and cons to spending quite a bit more for something like the Mafell. I've found that the time and money invested to refine log building classes and GOL classes really improved my safety and productivity.

One word about chainsaws, i'm an absolute fan of stihl, but for lightness, husqvarna can't be beaten. No branch of mechanics has received greater develop ment in the U n itled States than t h at which relates to woodworking. From the front of the base projects a foot lever, by which the belts are shifted back and forth, a very ingenious arragement of parallel motion levers being employed at the inner end of the foot lever. I have used them all, the Mafell, Protocol and Swiss Tool mortiser are incredible tools that greatly speed things up for the professional.

majority of our projects now are CNC machined, but I still use the old mortiser when on site for modifications. I am not looking for a chain mortiser, I am looking for the type with a frame to hold the post and the guide bar attachment on the saw to do the mortises. Can anyone tell me if they have purchased one of the used models from Japan and if they had any issues with voltage (Japan is 100v while USA is 110-120v)? I have sharpened plenty of chainsaw chains and handsaws and such but never before a mortiser chain so please educate me! The 7104L will also cut up to 5-1/8" long by 7-1/4" wide mortises without repositioning the mortiser.

These machines the chain mortiser rep laces, throwi ng into disuse the old chiseling processes, and substituting therefor a cutting tool which eats its way into the heart of the hardest or softest wood with the utmost rapidity, making therein a m orti se of mathematical accu racy of s h ape, cleali ng it of even the smallest chip and leaving no core to be knocked out. I’m a novice when it comes to framing, so I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, it works great, cuts like a hot knife through butter and very accurate. If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom, then you're welcome too. In indoor woodwork especially, an immense quantity of mortise and tenon work has to be done, and machines for the purpose have been used for many years. When in action, the chain is kept constantly in rapid motion, its s peed varying from 1,800 to 2,300 feet a m inute, and its feeder bar projecting down over the work table.

Some of our supplier's literature/videos may display optional features which aren't always available on our equipment. I finally broke down and bought the Makita last year when I was building my own project I have used them off and on for years and never had a problem with the Makita mortiser .

The sword saw has a riving knife, but that doesn't appear to be useful for tenons as no cut will exceed 175mm. The folks over at [WayOutWest] were building a fence and needed a way to cut a bunch of mortises in 4×4 inch posts to accept 2×6 inch rails. mortise it would be easier to do two chops with the slightly wider chain than three with the standard 11/16″ chain. I mean say you have one at the top of your post and one half way down in another position is there an easy way to mark this out so it lines up perfect. The work table on its front is adapted to be placed at different angles, so that the mortises can be made in any desired direction. I keep forgetting when you have a rack saw bench to load your timber on and a timber crane for lifting 200kg is like handling match sticks. I am making a couple of timber frames shortly, and have about 120 mortises to cut in green oak beams of either 175 x 175 or 150 x 150 cross section.
