About this deal

A wonderful, intense, ‘dancing’ nose, with lots of different, intertwined aromas – powerful, oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, and a curious, sharp herbal note.

The peat is amazingly discreet, but quite dirty, sooty, menthol and after some time with a sweet tip. But at least there is lots of good whisky being released in general – I should probably revisit Ardbeg again soon, to see what some of their more recent releases are like. Palate: Now this is Ardbeg, peat and ashes but still sporting a round edge, honey and apricots sweetness, salt, hints of salami and Kabanos. Part-matured in virgin Black Sea oak casks as well as standard American oak ex-Bourbon casks before being masterfully married together to produce this Kelpie expression by Dr.And surprisingly no one is really asking about what the oak grown there actually does to the maturing whisky – am I alone in wanting to know this?
