Damian Barr sifts through the wreckage of a horrific childhood and manages to extract humour, generosity of spirit and ultimately joy. This book had my emotions all over the place in a good way due to being so well written and having me hooked. I want to hug that little Damian and take his struggles away but then we would never have Maggie and Me and we would never have you how you are, with how you see the world and what you give should never be compromised.
