This film has its heart in the right place, in terms of its coming-of-age depictions of peer pressure, the reckless supposed invincibility of youth, and heartbreaking loss. Sure the quality is not as robust, but it's quick convenient and I don't have to deal with Samsung's toy remotes. Shakur shines as a character whose facade of bravado conceals his fear of the prison life suffered by his traumatized father.

Fittingly, Juice was written and directed by Lee’s frequent cinematographer at that point, Ernest R. Even big action moments like when the cops are chasing after the crew early in the film or the key robbery sequence - the mix stays in that comfortable front/center realm. Dickerson explains what influenced the film and how and why the original ending (which is shown) had to be changed.Who makes a remote about the size of a stick of gum, that doesn't have strong buttons that allow you to use it by feel? Released on January 11, this new release carries over everything from the 25th anniversary and displays the film’s 4K transfer proper. Only Poetic Justice, which cast him across from Janet Jackson, would gross more among Shakur's output.

Dialog is the main focus of the film, and the vocals are firmly planted in the center of room, with the front soundstage take the rest of the work (or at least MOST of the rest). This is not a DV issue like other disc out there as the issue is also present through HDR10 playback as well. Juice celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a largely pleasing and overall excellent - but not quite perfect - Native 4K Dolby Vision HDR (and HDR10) transfer. I checked bitrates and most of the time the film is hitting high 50mbps with peaks in the 80mbps range, but for these macro blocking incidents, the bitrate plummets to the low 20s and then quickly shoots right back up once the artifacting resolves itself.
