Hiccup, the unlikely hero of the story, struggles with a strong father figure and a naughty bite-sized dragon, gets himself in increasingly deadly situations and - somehow - with the help (or in spite of the hindrance) of his friends manages to survive.

A great addition to an interesting series, it is fun to watch as Hiccup and Toothless seem to be ever failing as viking and dragon despite their growth from the last one or at least apparent growth. When the festival day arrives, the gang are put on a ship and sail into the gladatorial arena, where they are to fight deadly Sharkworms, rather than a traditional fight on land. Hiccup's memoirs look back to when Hiccup was just an ordinary boy, and finding it very hard to be a Hero. But things get WORSE, when the Romans steal Hiccup's precious book HOW TO SPEAK DRAGONESE and Hiccup and Fishlegs are taken off to the Fortress of Sinister!When Hiccup's dragon Toothless is captured by Romans, only Hiccup and his friend Fishlegs can rescue him. Cressida loves illustrating her own work, but also loves writing books for other people to illustrate as the end result can be so unexpected and inspiring.
