About this deal

Aged for a minimum of 7 years in the tropics after a long, natural fermentation, this blend of 100% traditional Pot Still marks is characterised by a high ester profile and tropical notes. Hampden estate, that makes Hampden Estate Rum Fire, is perhaps the most traditional rum producer in the world.

Just to clarify the tasting notes, this rum isn’t that sweet or even sweetened, it’s just the perceived flavours. Trelawny, where the Hampden Estate is situated makes the heaviest and funkiest rum on the island of Jamaica. In the unlikely event that you're not happy with your purchase, for whatever reason, then please do get in touch so that we can make amends. The rum has been aged for 8 years in Jamaica in a tropical climate, which is equivalent to almost 25 years of maturation in the European climate.

Candied and jellied fruit notes develop: papaya, guava, lime, Seville orange, blood orange and nectarine. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services.

Best enjoyed sipped neat, but makes a delicious full flavoured Rum Old Fashioned, or can be used to bring full flavour and life to a rum punch / tiki style drink such as a Mai Tai.The palate has intense fruit: pineapple, apple, pear, mango and papaya stewed down into a thick jam. Upon arriving to the Hampden Estate we were greeted by resident peacocks and Steve who spent a long time showing us around the Estate.

It’s quite bright and spicy, especially compared with the older version which was more on the “rotten fruit” kind of side. Gentle spice with a touch of candied lemon - once past the fruit there's so much going on with the spice and dark smokiness. At Hampden, fermentation is like a dream for anyone who can grasp the magic and mystery of this process that can transform flour into bread, grapes into wine and fermented sugarcane into rum.Affirming an authentic and natural character, Hampden Estate 46% is a proud representative of Pure Single Jamaican Rums. The nose is voluptuous and intense, with notes of caramelised apple and sweet spices mixed with a delicate touch of smokiness. The Vendome dates back to 1994 and can contain 5,000 gallons (18,900 litres); it is installed on a “covered veranda” and is the only still that faces the sugarcane fields surrounding the distillery. It has maintained the same production methods and techniques for the last two centuries, such as the use of its own spring water, prolonged fermentation time with wild yeasts, tropical ageing, no added colorants and sugar, and distillation exclusively in pot stills. Weighing in at a generous 60% ABV, the bold, powerful rum retains plenty of tropical character, with layers of rich oak char, exotic fruit, and woody spice. This legendary distillery is one of the (just a) few that still maintains centuries old production techniques that were developed to create its signature full bodied, high ester rums. From the arid plantations on the edge of the Mexican desert, through the rugged glens of the Scottish Highlands, to the undulating vineyards of Cognac in Southwest France, successive generations have been distilling the fermented liquor of agave, barley, grape, cane sugar and other fruits, plants and grains. Tripadvisor don't allow me to include a web address however if you google Hampden, there is an info address which you can use to send them a mesage. Urban Bar take our design rights and intellectual property very seriously, we do not create items for others to copy. But it's been fermented for a longer time (as it says on the label), so the esters are quite noticeable, too much for my taste. On the palate: Persistent and pleasant notes of ginger, vanilla, dark chocolate and coffee bean, resin and praline.
