About this deal

Next Station: London was designed by Matthew Dunstan and published by Blue Orange Games, with illustrations by Maxime Morin. As such, it’s important not to box yourself in, as routes are drawn from the furthest edge of the track and only a special card can allow a junction to be placed. If you select this option when starting a solo game, and have enabled "Share data with Blue Orange" in the game's settings, you will be dealt a solo game with a pre-shuffled deck of cards for the day. When I first opened Next Station: London—and it is a handsome production, right down to the magnetic metal closing lid—I was worried about a few things, which turned into concerns tied to the game’s level of endurance. One other way you can draw your network: if you draw the Railroad Switch card after the first or second turn of the round.

That makes each game a tense and surprising experience and can really amp up the pressure for your next line!e., going back through a station already forming part of that line) – I always knew the Circle Line in London was dodgy! Well, it would’ve been very easy to overlook this game and I nearly did myself as it did appear very similar. Scoring in Next Station London is tight at both two and three players and the solo challenge has been a treat. They did a good job keeping the basic rules concise, and nearly on one page, but the actual details of the rules are in separate places. The more I play, the more I analyse the map layout, and see the potential in gunning for different strategies.

Note that you will always use all 4 pencils in each game, regardless of the player count, because each player will use each color once. That’s enough of an endorsement for anyone looking for a new distraction while not completely forgetting about the desire to explore other areas of the board game world. The remaining pencils (or pens) are placed in between all the players or in a row if you are playing solo. You always play four rounds, you always use each pencil color, and you don’t have any direct interaction with other players, so nothing to worry about! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

There’s a temptation to traverse a lot of distance by drawing big diagonal lines between connecting Stations, but you run the risk of cutting off a lot of the board by doing that. The main interaction between players here happens between rounds as you pass pencils around the table. Next Station London | The Gaming CircusIt's time to get to the drawing board with this game, as The City of London has commissioned you to redesign their underground network! Also, while the colored pencil powers are certainly fun (wish there were a couple more options), the shared objectives module is not as great. Everyone will get the same powers tied to the same colors during a game—for instance, the pink pencil might be the one that gets a free track split. There are times when I’ve used a wild as a particular shape, only to realize that none of that shape had been drawn yet and I might get it two more times in the round.
