About this deal

Marty is an experienced electrical, electronics, and embedded firmware design engineer passionate about audio and DIY. A line interactive UPS is a battery-backup system with a battery that’s always engaged between the input AC and the output AC. The ferrite beads I use to separate digital devices from analogue (one side of the board is all analogue, the other digital, the ferrites go in between). One thing you could check for, though it’s mostly an issue in high-impedance (higher gain/voltage, aka Hi-Z) applications, such as with guitar cables, is that they aren’t microphonic. If this is the case, my first thought is to earth the metal casing of the Arcam to known earth point, such as the earth pin of a mains plug (if you’re in the UK this is dead easy) .

I have used optocoupler and dc-dc isolators before, but I'm not sure how I should connect them in this context. There are definitely times when it’s just not practical to avoid using a ground loop isolator or you simply can’t find another way to solve your noise problem. The passive Palmer Enz box isolates the pieces of equipment that make up the system, resulting in clean and pure sound. I also had a different amp in place at one point in this system, and I did not have any noise like I do with the Carver. But if you’re noticing odd noises that seem to be in time with the bass or vibrations, give the signal cables a hard tap with a finger (with the equipment powered on) to see if this is a problem. This passive DI box boasts double the connection ports of your average DI and can even double as a dual line isolator. The second method is to run a wire that’s less resistive than the USB/HDMI cable shielding from the case of the USB audio interface or HDMI audio component to your computer’s case.

As the Samsung tablet is battery powered, im 95% confident you won’t hear noise with it (unless it’s plugged into a charger. It’s also heavy, about the size of a small dehumidifier, and it has some features (such as USB monitoring, so that it can gracefully shut down an attached computer in the event of a power failure) that have nothing to do with noise elimination. Ground loops are hardly the only thing that cause electrical noise; pretty much any device with a motor (hair dryers and blenders, for instance), as well as dimmer switches and failing fluorescent fixtures will create this type of interference. You could just “pull the ground” by using a three-prong to two-prong adapter but this represents a potential shock hazard. If you're working on a stereo rig and you can't figure out how to get rid of that unwanted hum, try the Radial StageBug SB-6. It obviously is, but it’s heavily reliant on things that can be objectively measured and need to be properly understood, some of which are not at all easy, and a lot of which have been forgotten.

Sometimes using small jumper wires (for example, speaker wire) can be used to “short” and fix a ground loop by jumpering different ground points. The loop noise did eventually disappear, so I kept going with it to see if it just took time for it to work, but it needs this extra time on every startup. ELIMINATING BUZZING NOISE : Eliminating the buzzing noise, caused by ground loops which happens when the audio source and the speaker use the same power source in some car speakers / home stereo systems when using the Bluetooth receiver. The other rule for wires is not looping antenna signal cables (twin-lead), which tends to induce the same noise by making them antennas themselves. Noise was horrible using aux cable, but was clean using blue tooth (aux cable produced a ground loop). The reason is because your system is grounded in two ways; through your interconnect leads and through your aerial lead. It’s also much less-expensive than one of those high-end power conditioners you see marketed to gullible audiophiles. I do have plans to add an ND5 XS 2 one day which may complicate things, though I think I will be alright. Plugged this audio noise filter up and it instantly took the buzz/hum/static out of your car audio system/radio/home stereo/speakers. You can get them cheaper, but the cheap ones add distortion artifacts, especially at lower frequencies as the core saturates easily.
