About this deal

Whilst I like the approach of the book and I think the exercises are well thought out and the chapters are well structured, it is quite annoying to find that the book has not been properly proofread before publication. Similarly, if you like to consider grammar from a technical point of view, there is something out there. You’ll also find some basic overviews of grammar and vocabulary rules intended to provide extra support. For most of them, the choice will be between a full plain text in paperback (Garnier-Flammarion or Folio editions are best), or a school edition of the kind published by Larousse, Hachette or Bordas.

These examples would make sense to someone who already has the knowledge (perhaps revising) but if you are using the book from beginning to end they are inappropriate, actually unhelpful. Very few native speakers master all forms of grammatical French, so don’t feel ashamed if you need to use the book for reference frequently. It explains French grammar points alongside their English counterparts, using simple language and examples to compare and contrast the grammar in these two languages.
