About this deal

personally I disagree with the authors’ interpretation of Azula’s character, as I have always been of the (unpopular? Throughout it all, she is steadfast in her belief that the only one wronged and betrayed was her, making her the only victim, and that she was right and justified in everything. But after a failed attack on her latest target, Azula finds herself in a mysterious forest temple inhabited by a solitary monk… or is it something more mysterious? You surround yourself with people to manipulate and harm because you can't stand the idea of facing the world alone.

If you are expecting a huge shake-up to the Avatar timeline as I did, you should definitely lower those expectations. We are pleased to share an exclusive, unlettered preview of “Azula in the Spirit Temple,” from the veteran “Avatar” creative team of Faith Erin Hicks, Peter Wartman and Adele Matera, which will follow the Fire Nation princess as she learns to deal with the demons of her past, and find peace with her present. The spirit temple, as revealed by the beast inside, is supposed to invoke a Heel Realization and offer second chances to those who have made the wrong choices in life, but Azula believes apologies and redemption to be for the weak. The dressing up in costumes, throwing smoke bombs, and doing dastardly things not only needs to stop but it needs to be acknowledged as a mistake. I don’t mean they need to be killed, or literally made to vanish, but the Kemurikage as a concept needs to end. It means if only she had been nicer, she would have been a more effective villain because she would have had allies to help her kill Zuko and Katara during Sozin’s Comet.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. The atmopshere is a lot stronger and closer to the show, and there's some believable insight into Azula's hidden feelings. The other Fire Warriors are visibly displeased by this, but Azula casually rebuffs them by saying that in war casualties are inevitable. Azula is a very interesting character and it was nice to get a peek into her mind, but the story didn't really accomplish anything. Azula and Ty Lee get the most focus, of course, and they’re particularly expressive, which helps their personalities come through whether they’re given any dialogue or not.

It stays true to the character, matches the Avatar art style, and is a great look at who Azula is and what makes her tick. You tell the people around you that they're nothing without you… That they can't survive without you.

As an added bonus, she is wildly powerful and her lightning bending and fighting style is stunning to look at. This also means she is willing to risk more time being alone, which according to the spirit is her greatest fear as she is scared of dwelling on her wrongful actions and owning up to them.Yes, I know she was unhinged and villainous, but I thought we would be exploring more of her parent’s treatment of her.

In the spirit vision of the moment when Azula first consciously used firebending, Ozai is portrayed as wearing the royal regalia, including the Fire Lord headpiece, even though he was only a prince at the time. Now this is the part where we’re going to delve into spoilers, because it’s an important part of the character exploration, so read on at your own risk. Not expecting her to get redeemed in a stand-alone comic so i hope this is explored more in the future. At the end of the story, Azula -if snidely- decides to let go of her desire for revenge against the "traitorous" Fire Warriors and let them be happy without her, showing she subconsciously is aware her behavior toward Mai and Ty Lee was wrong and she doesn't wish to repeat it.
