Otherwise mechanics can take advantage of you - if you don't know what a spark plug is, and does, you can be taken to the cleaners by a shady mechanic! I am being serious here - this is a book that anyone who owns a car should have, and should understand. The English is not too complicated which can be an incredibly headache for people who just want to sit and read to catch up but end up with a book that had a sentence within a sentence that digresses mid-sentence.

I may supplement my collection with chassis/bodywork technology because I own an elderly Mercedes and it needs periodic maintenance.

Book 2 follows on with greater depth and breadth for modern vehicle technologies and electronic based systems and is more appropriate for advanced students and for existing technicians who want to develop knowledge of the modern vehicle. As a beginner to moderately experienced home car mechanic, I have learnt quite a bit from this book. This book is brilliant for students, teachers or anyone who is taking up a career in motor vehicle mechanics. Each edition is well written and, I think, with the car enthusiast in mind as opposed to the professional reader.
