About this deal

For more critical scientific use at 30 feet (10 meters), use a correction factor of +0.8 (minor barrel distortion) in Photoshop's The smaller the focal length, the greater the focusing area will be with an equivalent aperture, which is an advantage in street photography, where we try to have the most excellent focal length with as much light as possible). If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 42 × 62" (3.5 × 5.2 feet or 1.05 × 1.6 meters). Unlike the original version, the Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR lens now has a traditional aperture ring on the lens barrel, which allows you to set the aperture in 1/3 steps, complete with full aperture markings running from f/2.8 to f/16. Coming from a crop sensor camera with limited ability to get in close, I was surprised by the dreamy bokeh this 27mm could capture. The 27mm is the kit lens for bodies like the XE4, and the bokeh definitely doesn’t feel kit. Out-of-focus areas have nice, soft edges. Points of light are circular. Most bokeh balls have soft edges, though a few had a slight ring to them. I didn’t spot any soap bubble bokeh. Sharpness

that it fits more in without looking too wide. Photo taken with Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 You can still eek out some bokeh I use a clear (UV) protective filter instead of a cap ( exactly like an iPhone) so I'm always ready to shoot instantly. I only use a cap when I throw this in a bag with other gear without padding — which is never. The UV filter never gets in the way, and never gets lost, either. Front-group focussing. The front five elements move in and out as a group to keep the optical design optimized at all distances. The front section extends as focused closer. This lens has no Optical Image Stabilization (OIS, IS or VR (Vibration Reduction)), but it works great with cameras that have internal stabilization. If all you’re doing, though, is photographing static or slowly moving subjects, the autofocus works absolutely fine, giving consistently sharp images. With faster action you may need to bring other techniques into play, such as pre-focusing and shooting bursts, or selecting a small aperture and using depth of field to cover for any focus inaccuracy. To be honest, though, you’d probably be better off just switching to a different lens. Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR: PerformanceFujifilm have paid attention to this aspect of lens use, employing a 7-segment diaphragm with rounded blades for pleasing bokeh. The only downside of the XF 27mm for portrait use is the sluggish performance in AF-C. With face/eye detection on, I find the hit rate quite low on a moving toddler. In standard AF-C, I have to keep my dogs very still. 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/340sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/1400sec | f/9 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/85sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/950sec | f/8 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/800sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/900sec | f/8 27mm | ISO-800 | 1/80sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/1600sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/125sec | f/3.2 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/220sec | f/8 Street Photography and Architecture This is linked to the perfection of its image quality but also to its focal length. 40mm is very close to the viewing angle of the human eye. If you're not getting ultra-sharp pictures with this, be sure not to shoot at f/11 where all lenses are softer due to diffraction, always shoot at ISO 100 or below because cameras become softer at ISO 200 and above, avoid shooting across long distances over land which can lead to atmospheric heat shimmer, be sure everything is in perfect focus, set your camera's sharpening as you want it (I usually set mine to the maximum) and be sure nothing is moving, either camera or subject. If you want to ensure a soft image with any lens, shoot at ISO 1,600 or above at default sharpening in daylight of subjects at differing distances in the same image.

Bokeh, the feel, character or quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to how far out of focus they are, isn't that great, but nothing every gets that far out of focus, so don't worry about it. The 27mm focal length works out to around 41mm on a full frame camera, and hits the ‘human eye’ sweet spot of a 55.5° angle of view. I’m often torn between the width of my 23mm f/2 and the tighter composition of my 35mm f2, so the 27mm provides a nice middle ground. The lens glass is tiny and it could use a much smaller filter than it does. 39mm is a much larger filter than needed, but as the standard size for LEICA, Fuji chose to emulate LEICA and use the same size filter.
