About this deal

Michelle Nash , President of the Military Council of Catholic Women Worldwide "This book beautifully articulates the profound longing of the human heart: to love and be loved. This book made me want to know Jesus more and trust Him the way that these women of the NT trusted Him.

We believe that faithful proclamation of the gospel is what our hostile and disoriented world needs. She is the author of "Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World's Largest Religion" (Crossway, 2019)—named Book of the Year 2020 by Christianity Today—"10 Questions Every Teen Should Ask (and Answer) About Christianity" (Crossway, 2021), "The Secular Creed: Engaging 5 Contemporary Claims (TGC, 2021), and "Is Christmas Unbelievable? Her approach is fairly simple, namely, she notices women in the Gospels and draws her readers into their shoes.

But while Jesus defined all sex outside of marriage as sinful, he also welcomed even the most notorious sexual sinners who put their trust in him. Rebecca McLaughlin (PhD, Cambridge University) is the cofounder of Vocable Communications, a communications consulting and training firm. The author uses a few select stories about Jesus and then inputs psychology and insights from other non-Biblical sources to try to make what the Bible says more favorable to women than men. And yet she cannot grasp who Jesus really is, and how much more he would be than all she can imagine.

Contributors to this inspiring scripture study include: Alyssa Bormes, Sarah Christmyer, Mary Healy, Maria Morera Johnson, Stephanie Landsem, Elizabeth Lev, Joan Lewis, Deborah Savage, Kelly Wahlquist, Katie Warner, and Carol Younger. In 6 chapters and just under 200 pages, McLaughlin shows aspects of Jesus through those whom you may have overlooked. As you study the lives of Mary, Martha, Mary Magdalene and others you will learn from their faith and failures, and be reminded that Jesus cared for and valued the women he was surrounded by. Before we get into her masterful debunking of certain myths and stereotypes, let me deflate one on the author’s behalf: though women are in the title, this book is not just for women, and it is not even really about women. As we look at Jesus through his mother’s eyes, we see how God grabs ordinary folk to be his chosen agents in this world. We find a man born into sexual scandal, who further scandalized his fellow Jews by loving women known for sexual sin. AI should be designed and used in such ways that treat all human beings as having equal worth and dignity. The book introduces us to lesser-known women of the Bible, too, like Joanna, the wife of Herod’s household manager and a likely source of inside information from the halls of power (Luke 9:1-3; 9:9). The way that Jesus treated women tore up the belief that women are innately inferior to men: a belief that was pervasive in the ancient world.
