About this deal

This brief novel tells the story of Sophia, a six-year-old girl awakening to existences, and Sophia’s grandmother, nearing the end of hers. Most sports romances also have a large focus on the mmc but the majority of this story focuses on Nora's career which I also loved. It's an idea that haunts me and is an appropriate symbol for the experiences of the humans in the book as well.

Paul’s family lives in the Marais section of Paris around the corner from the hotel Collier stays at while in Paris, so they began to meet and to make a project that lasted two years in which Collier would visit Paul at his parents’ house and take pictures and talk. This is a fictionalised account of the summer (s) that the three spent together with respectively their aunt, daughter, sister: Tove Janssen. Owlet Press was founded by Samuel Langley-Swain in 2018, working with authors and illustrators with a shared passion – picture books which reflect the true diversity in children’s lives. However, the Queen of quirks, Nora, and the sweet pie hiding behind the grumpy facade, Dere-Bear Derek, emerge as the winners!

She wasn't wildly impressed - no doubt she would have done well to have listed to that voice of wisdom which resounded from deep within me - however in a cunning book exchange, rather like an exchange of secret agents on a fog shrouded Berlin bridge during the Cold War, I took this book from her in exchange for one that I had read a couple of times, ha!Everything is in here; the battles I won and lost, the chefs I learned from and the dishes that made Midsummer. This could so easily be twee or trite (ha ha, kids say the funniest things and old folks have lots of homespun wisdom to impart) but it's not, it's brilliant. This is a fascinating exploration of the development of book design through some of the most treasured volumes in the British Library collections. It was perfect, actually, as this is a story about wildness, both the wildness of living on a small island in the Gulf of Finland and the wildness of living with fewer social conventions and conveniences. Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine/Dell for sharing this amazing book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest feedback.
