I'm not sure how well this book would work for someone new to the series, but for those who've read all the books leading up to An Island Wedding, it's an absolute treat!

Now I want to go to Mure myself and meet all Flora, Joel, Lorna, Saif, the whales and just everyone! The characters were great favorites in the past and it seems like the author was trying to find something to keep the series going. More importantly, the women in this book, Flora and Lorna, can't seem to assert themselves, and instead allow the men to make all the important decisions.You can still enjoy a charming tale of friendship, family and of course the chaos that surrounds even the smallest of weddings. The 5th installment in Jenny Colgan’s wonderful Mure series brings us back to this beautiful, remote Scottish island.

Vooral het einde van twee personages (sorry, dit kan ik niet prijsgeven zonder te spoilen, maar DM me maar als je het gelezen hebt) vond ik echt niet bevredigend. He and Flora don't talk and finally she says they can postpone the wedding and tell everyone they are waiting until their child Douglas can walk down the aisle. Her fiancé has oodles of family money, and Olivia is determined to throw the biggest, most extravagant, most Instagrammable wedding possible. The island life on Mure is a redemptive feature: the backdrop of the rugged coastline whale pods and quiet beauty. And she wants to do it at Flora’s hotel, the same weekend as Flora’s carefully planned micro-wedding.As the summer solstice approaches, can Flora handle everyone else’s Happy Every Afters—and still get her own? Her books have sold more than five million copies worldwide and in 2015 she was inducted into the Love Stories Hall of Fame.

While it could be read as a stand-alone, I would highly recommend reading the rest of the series for background information and character development. I love the sense of family and connection that everyone on Mure has, and the ending is bittersweet, yet a bit hopeful. And seeing people habitually abusing their partners in public (Jan to Charlie) will not prompt anyone to intervene in any way.Colgan books are my respite to escape from the harsh realities of the world and I am so thankful for it. They get back to shore and the entire town is waiting and pats him on the back for being the rescuer and Joel yells he can't wait to see them all at the wedding. Ik heb de voorgaande delen niet altijd met enorm veel plezier gelezen, maar dit was echt een heerlijke afsluiter. I used to love this series but since rereading the first three and reading the last two I am just done with it.
