But their opponents are elusive, capable, and increasingly lethal; worst of all, it seems that the park bombing may just have been the opening salvo in their plan. Hell's Corner in the fifth and final book in The Camel Club Series by David Baldacci, first published in November of 2010. And that’s really something, because she doesn’t really know his friends but she trusts Stone and he trusts them, and so she trusts and helps them too. Oliver Stone is an American assassin who is about to undertake a mission for the President of the United States when an explosion involves him in an entirely new mission. Con artist Annabelle Conroy is now an honorary member of the club, and she turns to the gang when an old enemy targets her.

You can always tell who the sacrificial lamb will be (normally the female side kick who Oliver Stone has been forced to work with) and that in the end stone will triumph. On the night of the State Dinner honoring the Prime Minister of England, Oliver Stone is across from the White House in Lafayette Square. In response to the government's request, Oliver teams up with Mary Chapman, an agent from the British MI6, to unravel the incident. This book is a great read for anyone who likes political thrillers or suspense novels and anyone who likes Baldacci but hasn’t had a chance to turn to the series. Without giving the story-line away, I found this was the book that finally stretched plausibility beyond its breaking-point: the main plot device is 'James Bond' like (and speaking as a chemist, scientific nonsense); the final action sequence is rather 'deja vu'; and, as this was the last in the series I was expecting some closure on the career of John Carr (one way or another), whereas its actually left entirely open.

McGlarty said as he was reading that he was absolutety stunned at the end, and the surprises were terrific. In the aftermath, British MI-5 agent Mary Chapman, an experienced, lethal operative with an agenda of her own, is sent to assist and coordinate with American authorities to uncover who was responsible for the bombing. Because of the location of the park, the jurisdictional challenges are enormous with the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Park Service and the FBI as well as the DC Police all responsible for different pieces of the park. Oliver Stone was forced to be back in his business when he experienced a bombing in a known park near the White House.

Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world. The fifth part of the Camel Club series, Hell’s Corner is a good, engaging read, but one that was just short of four stars. The Camel Club goes from upset at being turned away to forcing its way into the investigation and from that moment on the determination to capture the criminal and figure out what is really going on grows to a proportion even Stone can’t control. This book makes you ponder what is really going on at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and it's other federal agencies. If you’ve always wanted to read David Baldacci but weren’t sure where to start, here’s a handy list of the Camel Club series to get you started. I do not like novels that are predictable and Hell's Corner kept me guessing throughout the entire book.

b. People from various agencies that Stone comes across in his mission - National Intelligence Center, NIC, new director Riley Weaver; MI6 Director, Sir James McElroy; ATF agent Stephen "Steve" Garchik; FBI Special Agent Tom Gross; ATF Labrador Dogs Roy and Wilbur; FBI Special Agent Laura Ashburn. Was there no one in the CIA, NSA, or FBI who would be better prepared to do this than an aging assassin? Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she'd given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.On the night of the State Dinner honouring the British Prime Minister, Oliver Stone witnesses an explosion as the motorcade leaves the White House. it was clear that in the interrogation room other than Friedman, the only agents were Gross, Chapman and Stone. Liberty Hardy is a Book Riot senior contributing editor, co-host of All the Books, a Book of the Month judge, and above all else, a ravenous reader. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.

Like the all of the more recent Baldacci novels and none of the early Baldacci novels, Hell's Corner is nothing but a page turner. While this novel was published in 2010, it's surprising how the international situations and technological innovations from 13 years ago still hold relevance in today's world. It has great dialogue, great narration and some pretty interesting action sequences – all aspects of a Baldacci novel that will keep you turning the pages. There has been plenty of people trying to take him down, and he is still standing along with his Camel Club friends. I listened to this on audiobook and, I have to say, it took a bit of concentration due to the complexity of the storyline.
