About this deal
Only the iD14 MkII has had any physical upgrades with the dual headphone output, an extra pair of outputs and the ability to be fully bus‑powered. What I'd like to mention is that the volume knob is significantly less robust compared to all others.
The Audient iD4 mkII USB Audio Interface delivers professional audio performance in a compact and modern desktop package. Now it also comes with free plugins and creative software with ARC including Steinberg's Cubase LE and Cubasis LE2 (for iOS), Waldorf PPG 2. The iD14 MkII has an additional combi Mic/Line input with independent phantom power with solid switches on the top panel.
They are designed as desktop interfaces with all the controls on the top surface exactly where I like them to be. One delightful Windows‑orientated bonus feature that you never see is that the system tray icon gives you quick access to the main settings, including ASIO Buffer Size — bravo! It turns the volume dial into a scroll wheel to use in your interfaces and programs, which is REALLY handy and nifty.
My iD4MKII has been working without fault when I've hooked it to the Thunderbolt 3 port of a Mac or a PC. They both run at 24‑bit and 96kHz; they have similar signal‑to‑noise of 101dBu, slightly improved dynamic range at 120dB, the same 58dB gain range on the mic input, slightly less on the JFET input. Before purchasing an interface for this use, I would suggest you carefully review the reviews by Julian Krause on YT. I want to say it offers a more refined level of control than a mouse wheel, but it’s just too lumpy. Looking at the features of that bigger version, it looks like a better value in other ways too, at least if you have use for two input channels. Audient have taken their excellent EVO 4 interface and bundled it up with everything you need to start recording. Ensuring the finest recording experience straight out of the box, the Audient iD4 MKII includes the same preamps that are in the ASP8024-HE console, a piece of gear that's highly regarded for its next-to-nothing noise and distortion.
I retested with two different TRS-TRS cables, and still got the same high-frequency attenuation above 5KHz on the Line-in. MusicRadar verdict: The iD4 provides a solid uplift on its predecessor and although the feature set is pretty basic, there’s quality where it counts. Quickly create and monitor a blend of iD4’s inputs and your computer audio, find the perfect balance, and lay down your tracks effortlessly. Quickly create and monitor a blend of iD4’s inputs and your computer audio, find the perfect balance and lay down your tracks effortlessly. It has the USB2 port, 48v phantom power, 2 balanced speaker outputs, a mic/line combo in, and DI and headphone ports on the front. It’s gained a second pair of outputs and has a lightpipe input that can accommodate eight channels via ADAT or a stereo S/PDIF signal. The knobs are reasonably solid with a little bit of give in the large encoder, and it does have a nicely satisfying bump as it turns. To connect the iD4 to an iOS device with a lightning port, an Apple Camera Connection Kit and Active USB hub must be used.
