About this deal

I'd like to offer three Biblical principles this morning. I'm careful to call them principles, not promises. There are no guarantees, there are no formulas, when it comes to raising children to believe. But there are things we can do as adults to pass faith on the children in our lives. We've provided a simple outline in the worship folder, and we'll put the verses up on the screens. Those who run before set the pace for those who follow. Good baton passers are like “guides on the side, not sages on the stage.” They do all they can to facilitate successful hand-offs, but ultimately, they must let go to allow the next runners to find their own strides. There are many biblical parables for the passing of the baton, beginning in Genesis with the Patriarchs— Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to Joseph and the 12 Tribes of Israel. Later in the Old Testament there is the passing of kingly rule—which quite frankly didn’t go all that well—from Saul to David to Solomon. The most notable was from Moses to Joshua. Moses is considered one of the greatest leaders in the Old Testament. God used Moses to free the people of Israel from the chains of Egypt and lead them through the wilderness and toward the promised land of Canaan. However, Moses was not going to be the one to lead the people into the promised land. In Deuteronomy 3:28 God instructs Moses to “Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for it is he who will cross at the head of this people and he who will give them possession of the land you are to see.”

If an older or more mature believer has built into your faith and spiritual growth, write or call her, thanking her for specific ways she’s invested in your life. Part Two StudyThe idiom "pass the baton" usually refers to the act of handing over duties or responsibilities to someone else. It refers to the baton handoffs common in relay races, where runners transfer the baton to the next runner at the end of their leg. The church members' responsibility is to understand this "passing the baton" process. Each member of the church must get involved, be committed to seize opportunity, get engaged in this work, and be prayerful for this process. You can use the phrase “pass the baton” when you’re telling someone that you want to carry on their work or legacy. It’s a way of telling the other person it’s time to let go and let you handle things. The expression suits social and professional use.

What kind of pace are you setting for the children who are watching you? Is the quality of your faith giving them a head start, or a handicap? Because, make no mistake about it—children are watching you. Whether you're a parent or not, children in this church, children in the neighborhood, and children in your extended family are watching to see how you work, how you worship, how you treat people, how you spend your time and money. Do you know what they're looking for? Authenticity. They're not looking for perfection. They know you're human; they know you make mistakes. What they're looking for is a faith that's sincere—that's real and personal to you. This is a Christlike investment as it is modeling what our Lord Jesus Christ did in his earthly ministry as recorded in the Gospels. There will be time when you need to learn the HISTORY of the organization of which you’re leading in When you pass the baton to the next person in line, you tell them that you value their contribution to the situation.” As important as it is for the previous generation to set the pace by living authentically, at a certain point, a handoff must be made in which the next generation receives the baton of faith and begins to run with it. That handoff isn't as easy as it looks. It isn't automatic. It's the result of thousands and thousands of practice runs.

The best teachers and parents don’t always have all the best answers – the best teachers and parents ask the best questions. Work on finding the right questions, share those questions, then trust that because subsequent runners have prepared well and been prepared well, they can find their own answers with the help of heaven. It’s the perfect book to end our study because it’s the end of Paul’s race and summarizes so much of his passion. His job of passing on the gospel and entrusting it to the next generation was complete. Some language experts believe, that passing the baton became the preferred version sometime in the early 1900s.If the class is of mixed ability, try to choose the style that will be accessible to the weakest members of the group. Once you’ve demonstrated how to pass the baton a few times, you can get the class started themselves with some practice techniques. The stationary drill And So the Baton Is Passed is a 2021 Japanese drama film directed by Tetsu Maeda and starring Mei Nagano, Kei Tanaka, and Satomi Ishihara. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Meiko Seo. The relay race as a life metaphor arose for me recently as I was discussing on-boarding with my new company. The idea being that there are work and responsibilities that need to be handed off to me, but I must be up to speed before that handoff can occur. Just like in a relay race, we can’t allow momentum to be broken.
