About this deal

For me this is the best downgrade I've made and I don't miss my surround sound that much. Specially when I will be buying one the bk subs. It’s also really worthwhile spending the time to look at the key differences between the two products. For that you can use our comparison table about which looks at the main features of both products to give you a clear idea of where one product perhaps benefits over another. When comparing the two it’s a really good idea to have an idea in your mind of the key features that you need from your Home cinema systems and sound bars as this will help you to narrow down the products that do or don’t meet your criteria.

On the front is a small LED display above a subtle Canton logo. The display only has room for three digits, which feels a little simplistic when dealing with some of the setup menu options but it’s fine otherwise. Thankfully it disappears when idle, leaving you with a blank fascia that doesn’t distract from the screen. Sound modes include Stereo and DTS TruSurround, plus a new Voice mode that boosts speech and a Hotel mode that sets a maximum volume limit. The DM55 will also decode two-channel Dolby Digital. After spending an hour at richer sounds demoing I have decided to buy it, I also thought about getting Yamaha ysp2500 or monitor audio asb2 but was out of my budget. But the DM100 isn’t all about that bass. First-class mid-range and treble reproduction lends impressive clarity and vigour, heightening the excitement when the action hots up. The snap of gunfire is fierce but never coarse, plus every scene is teeming with incisive top-end detail.

But when I demoed with the sub connected at richer sounds the quality for music improved, so I can imagine if I connect bk xls400 with this I will have the best of both worlds. The 9 driver Sonos Playbar is part of a complete wireless music system and can link wirelessly with all the other components in the Sonos range , including powered speakers like the Sonos Play:1 and wireless receivers like the Connect:Amp, that will turn a set of passive speakers into a streaming HiFi system. Another option not officially supported by Sonos, is to connect all your devices via their optical output to an optical switch. This can be advantageous since some TVs don’t pass through exactly what they are sent. For example they may downsample 5.1 Dolby Digital to stereo. If you only have a Sky box connected to your TV, I’d connect directly from the Sky box to the Playbar to ensure any 5.1 content is played correctly.

Then upgraded to 5.0 with the tannoys and bought Sony 1040 had it for a month and loved it, I got my perfect set up, then came the idea to get a projector and re do the whole house, and with all these speaker wires on walls etc and av receiver it was a mess in my room. Canton’s DM 50, reviewed last year, is perhaps best used with TVs around the 48in mark; the step-up DM 75 on test here supports screens up to 60in (or up to 40kg in weight). Bigger screens need a bigger sound and the DM 75’s roomier cabinet should provide the extra oomph you’re looking for. You can place TVs weighing up to 40kg on top, provided the stand fits well within the 545mm by 300mm surface area. If you have a TV over 50in, I’d recommend stepping up to the DM75 or DM100. As with streamed music, the bass can be a bit unruly at times – when Sly Stallone remotely blows up his own helicopter I hoped for a smooth LF tidal wave washing over me, but got something less distinct – and even the dedicated Voice mode doesn’t reach down far enough to give any extra clarity to Sly’s ultra-low oscillations.

Canton DM75 Soundbase

The Canton DM75 Soundbase is the perfect match for a larger TV that's in a bigger room. This type of home cinema speaker has gained a strong foothold in the market with its discreet design, superb built quality, powerful bass, and crystal clear details. It delivers an outstanding performance. It streams via WiFi which means there is no downsampling. So it plays exactly what it’s sent, from compressed MP3 files, to uncompressed audio files like FLAC or Apple Lossless. But for soundbases build quality is more important than looks, and on that score the DM75 is a winner. Its high-density fibreboard bodywork is remarkably sturdy, allowing it to support TVs up to 40kg in weight. The DM50 was designed for TVs up to 40in, but the DM75 is suited to anything larger – provided it’s lighter than 40kg and its stand fits within the DM75’s top surface. Our 55-inch Samsung set sat snugly on top, even with its unusual four-pronged stand. What’s more, design and build quality are superb, while the terrific remote and a smattering of new features make it a joy to use. A key feature for music lovers is Bluetooth 4.0 with apt-X, which allows CD-quality streaming from mobile devices. You’ll also find on-board Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround, DTS’s processing technology for soundbars and TVs.

Sonos can operate in two modes: standard wireless mode and bridge mode. In bridge mode, all the Sonos components connect to each other directly, forming an ad-hoc network. This makes for a very robust wireless system, particularly if you have difficulty with wireless reception around your house.Ok got it home now and did more testing also it says I have to run it in for 20 hours to get the best out of it. The 6 driver DM55 is the smallest of a range of soundbases from Canton, an established and well respected German brand. The 55 stands for 55cm (width). They also do a DM75 (8 drivers ) and DM100 (10 drivers) at 75cm and 100cm wide respectively with higher specs. If you own a whopping great TV and want to boost its sonic potential, there aren’t many better ways of doing it than the DM100. With its immense power, gorgeous detail and snappy dynamics, it’s the closest you’ll come to a proper home-cinema experience without buying a receiver and 5.1 speakers. There are a few minor sonic issues, but nothing that can’t be ironed out with a little tweaking. It has one optical audio input which Sonos recommend you connect directly to your TV. Then you connect your Sky box, PlayStation, DVD player etc via HDMI. This does require your TV to have optical out (most recent TVs have this). Otherwise you’ll need to invest in an analogue to digital audio converter. One thing you might come across on SKY is that stereo can get much louder than DD, so when an advert comes on when you’re watching a DD programme the advert will be really loud because the adverts are in stereo, which can be annoying.

There’s no doubting the Canton DM75 is an excellent soundbase – we gave it an Award after all – but with the introduction of some fresh new rivals, there are now some things that put its fifth star on shaky ground. On hdmi 2 on the bar the blu ray player intermittently displays that horrible static image I sent a video of last time or Displays no image at all. To access the advanced sound settings, hold down the “play mode” or “sound” buttons and use the volume keys to turn them on and off. The setup menu is predictably basic on the three-digit display, but it’s better than the cryptic flashing lights used by other soundbases. I'm sure monitor audio asb will be better but I don't think it will be by much. Remember if u want that extra bass u have the option to connect the sub, I can tell it transforms it even more, also it automatically sets the crossover to 80hz. For operation, the Canton provides no onscreen display, just a three-character LED hidden behind the grille. This isn't exactly ideal because most of the time you just get a brief indication confirming a change in source, etc, plus a single light to indicate standby or full power.So. When you turn this thing on you will see the source appear in the soundbar's display. If all is well, you will see flash up: 'D.V IN', followed swiftly by 'TV ARC'. This is great. But then you may turn your tv off or decide to watch something using a different hdmi source (like your blu ray player) and when you return you see that TV ARC will no longer display on the soundbar. This soundbar includes two tweeter drivers with a diameter of 1 inch or 19mm, delivering clear and crisp high-frequency sounds. Additionally, it is equipped with two mid-range drivers with a diameter of 2 inches or 50mm, producing well-defined mid-range frequencies. Furthermore, the Canton DM 75 features four woofer drivers with a diameter of 4 inches or 100mm, delivering deep, rich bass tones to enhance the overall audio experience.
