Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society
The Dunfermline Gilbert & Sullivan Society was formed in 1971 to promote the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan.
There is an annual production at the Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline during a week in February and a summer concert, which does not always feature G&S music, is staged on an evening in June.
Members rehearse from August to February on Wednesday's and this is expanded to Sunday and occasionally Monday night rehearsals closer to the production week.
Singing G&S is good fun and most of the chorus numbers are sung in harmony. There's plenty of 'note bashing' during rehearsals so while reading music is handy, it's not imperative. Chorus members do not just learn their words for each show they also learn their music.
New members are warned that they are also expected to move about the stage quite a lot during productions and even dance! Yes, performing G&S involves physical activity as well.
Any member can audition for one of the principal character roles and auditions are held at the start of the rehearsal period for each show.
The annual membership fee is £105.
