About this deal

Affected areas should be treated with Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash. Once rinsed and allowed to dry it can be over coated with your favourite Weathershield Masonry Paint. It can be tempting to skip the preparation stage when you’re keen to see the finished product and are itching to add that bold colour-pop to your surface. New Plaster and very porous or powdery surfaces should be primed first with filler coat diluted 1 part to 4 parts water and allow to dry.

The application of all of these smoothing paints is really simple. You just paint them on, however you normally would. It will need to be built up in layers, for the best results. Leaving 6 hours for the filler to dry between each layer. Sometimes if you’re painting interior walls, it is not necessary to use a primer. We’ve explained in more detail below when you should use a primer paint on interior walls. Should You Use Primer Paint for Interior Walls?

Painting the metal surfaces in your home and garden – think garden gates, garage doors, and aluminium window frames – is a good way to refresh your space. Before you start painting your metal surfaces, you will need to prime them to help the paint adhere to the smooth metal surface. The reward could be well worth it and there is no need to get a plaster involved. Filling an Artex Wall Etch primer is used on untreated ferrous metals including aluminium, zinc, copper, brass, tin, and steel. Apply with a brush, or spray. A huge problem for any interior decorating project is to minimise 'flashing', which occurs when some patches of paint or filler are darker than others, resulting in an uneven finish. While some poor quality fillers can result in flashes on the wall, the Toupret classic filler will not flash, allowing you to achieve a smooth, even finish. On most metal surfaces, one coat of primer is enough. Because metal is not a porous surface like plaster and wood, the primer doesn’t have to absorb into the metal. Its job is to ensure that subsequent layers of paint adhere to the surface and one coat will be enough to do this. How Many Coats of Primer On Plaster?

The affected area should be brushed down with a stiff bristle brush to remove as much powdery material as possible before applying a coat of Weathershield Exterior Stabilising Primer. If the powder is due to salts/efflorescence then the surface should be wiped with a dry cloth to exhaust the salts before coating with Dulux Trade Alkali Resisting primer to eliminate staining. It can then be re-painted in your chosen finish. MDF Unpainted MDF needs sealing before painting. Use a specialist sealant such as Johnstone's MDF primer followed by an undercoat, before glossing or eggshelling. Products for more severely damaged surfaces are more closely related to plaster than paint, but for those nor wanting to employ a professional plasterer, there are supposedly "easy to use" options available that are generally non-toxic, with a low-VOC content. Not all are popular on the DIY chat boards, though, and they're not cheap, either ...

Conclusion

Apply in a V or W shape to get an even spread of paint. Use the brush to even out paint on the edges or any areas where paint has accumulated. When the primer is dry, rub down with a fine grit (180-220) sandpaper and wipe clean with a damp cloth. You may need another coat of primer. Follow the same process as the first coat.
