About this deal

A tale of two halves as we follow along with Catherine, who mysteriously finds a book by her bedside, a seemingly fictional tale but one that hits very close to home. However, it did kick off in interesting fashion with Catherine Ravenscroft (also a film documentary maker) finding a book beside her bed only to find it to be the story of a part of her own life she's desperate to forget! After being "lulled into complacency" with a few chapters and the intriguing promise of a decent payoff to come, the more she reads she cannot avoid facing the shocking truth; that The Perfect Stranger by E. Let’s just say I needed more facts to believe in something, and this is where I’ll stop as I’d hate to spoil the book for you. Disclaimer forms a trinity alongside Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train as the best of domestic noir .

Renee Knight's stunning debut is a thriller with a particularly literary flavour, but also with a heart. Stephen's story takes a while to build but the upshot is a manuscript that lies in his dead son's flat penned by his devastated wife, Nancy, who never recovered from his unexpected death at nineteen in Spain as part of a gap-year. Catherine finds that she is the main character in the book and that it reveals a secret that she thought only she could now know. Their son Nicholas has recently moved out and although he hasn’t achieved all they hoped, he seems stable and happy in his work. However, I must say even though I loved the concept, the development of the characters and the story’s pace, I was just tiny bit disappointed with the ending.

A psychological thriller that should please even the most discerning thriller reader, the unsettling and ingenious plot of” Disclaimer” makes it stand out from the rest. Well as with any book that depends on the reader not knowing very much before they start to appreciate the story, I can’t tell you very much!

So, Catherine in 2013 is a respected and loved woman, who has recently moved house and is looking forward to the future. When he finally takes the time to clear the flat, which had initially been bought for their son and where Nancy withdrew in the later years of her life he finds this unpublished manuscript which he then fashions into a novel in his name.

medida que a história vai avançando vamos conhecendo cada vez mais as características tanto de Catherine como do autor, ou melhor, produtor do livro, Stephen, o que torna o livro ainda mais interessante. Brooks places the epicenter of the Bigfoot war in a high-tech hideaway populated by the kind of people you might find in a Jurassic Park franchise: the schmo who doesn’t know how to do much of anything but tries anyway, the well-intentioned bleeding heart, the know-it-all intellectual who turns out to know the wrong things, the immigrant with a tough backstory and an instinct for survival.

When an intriguing novel appears on Catherine’s bedside table, she curls up in bed and begins to read. DISCLAIMER is a truly engaging debut by Renee Knight, and a psychological thriller I will not soon forget. A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. Catherine remains rather distant, but I suppose this is intentional, to keep the reader guessing about whether she's supposed to be sympathetic or not. As their lives become increasingly entangled, Stephen’s obsession grows, Catherine’s world crumbles, and it becomes clear that—in true thriller form—everything may not be as it seems.
