About this deal

In a simple and accessible way, Sitting Still Like a Frog describes what mindfulness is and how mindfulness-based practices can help children calm down, become more focused, fall asleep more easily, alleviate worry, manage anger, and generally become more patient and aware.”— Children’s Books Daily It describes in detail a series of stories and exercises that are simple, short and easy to carry out. They can be put into practice for a few minutes every day, on a regular basis. In addition to this, it comes with a CD, which helps to guide the meditation. One of the more useful direct bits of advice I took was: You are not your feelings, you have them. This seemed to help my five year old son calm down at the end of the day when he was overly tired and frustrated. It's a novel concept to be present with your feelings without getting swept up in them; that's tough even (especially) for adults to do. This also ties well with general parenting advice about helping children attach names to their feelings, which would be the first step toward understanding your feelings and detaching yourself from them. This book also touches upon subjects such as self-esteem, the psychology of being trapped in behavioral patterns that don’t serve you and how long breaths can help with the fight-or-flight response.

The Mindful Child: How to Help Your Kid Manage Stress and Become Happier, Kinder, and More Compassionate by Susan Kaiser Greenland Snel’s work is based on the principles of mindfulness and compassion and focuses on helping individuals develop their own mindfulness practice. Her teaching style is playful, accessible, and engaging, making her popular among children and families. Snel is dedicated to making mindfulness accessible to everyone and is committed to promoting well-being and happiness. For an athlete, musician, scientist, ... it is obvious to start stirring enthusiasm as soon as possible. For many, this creates a flow in which they increase the quality of their early-awakened talents. Progidies are forged. The Little Frog is for parents and grandparents of children aged eighteen months to four years, and for professionals working with them in nurseries and childcare and healthcare facilities. Ein in sehr jungen Jahren auf Achtsamkeit geschulter Geist kann ungeahnte Sphären der Erleuchtung erlangen

After the ground-breaking Sitting Still Like a Frog, Breathe through this followed in 2014. The book focuses on the parents of adolescents, but unlike many others it doesn’t claim to offer ready-made parenting tips. On the contrary, it encourages them not to judge themselves or their children. Showing compassion and open heartedness isn’t always easy, and you should pay attention to feelings of stress, anger, and powerlessness rather than ignoring them, squeezing them out, or overreacting. You should give them the same quality of attention you’d give to your best friend! Reading this book instils confidence, telling you that you’re doing better as a parent than you think, and that your teenager can develop into a person they’re proud of. Sitting Still Like a Frog is a book for open minded parents that are willing to try meditation with their children. Teachers and others that regularly work with children might find some of the ideas and exercises useful as well. I liked that the author included personal experiences, and not just the sunshine and roses. Parenting can be hard, and accepting that we could all do better is a great first step. I will admit that I have not yet jumped ahead and started these exercises with my children, at least not yet, but I can see how some could be extremely useful in my house. Getting everyone to slow down on focus on just breathing, on being, and the subtle workings of our bodies can go a long way to focusing the mind and getting a handle on emotions that might otherwise feel out of control. Being aware means abandoning judgment for a while, leaving aside our immediate objectives for the future and accepting the here and now as it is and not as we would like it to be.” Sitting Still Like a Frog is a perfect teaching resource for us to learn how to meditate as a family. It’s aimed at children from 5 to 12 years old, and the idea is that they practice meditation and relaxation together with their parents.
